Talk to your local council about running astronomy-related activities. Some councils run school-holiday programs; some have public art programs; and some run outdoor film screenings in the warmer months.
Run an astronomy-themed trivia night.
Run an astronomy song contest: ask people to write new words to a well-known tune, and then perform their songs.
Create a human sundial as part of a larger event (e.g. a local community festival). How do you do this? Google “human sundial” and you’ll find plenty of guidance.
Take part in the Globe At Night program in February/March, or the Great Worldwide Star Count in October/November.
Team up with a local astronomy club to run a public star party (viewing session). If you can, arrange for a visit by a portable planetarium.
Arrange a talk from a professional astronomer. To find one, try the Australian Astronomy website and follow the links to research organisations.
